Shear stress in a solid circular shaft

## Find the maximum torsional shear stress in a solid circular shaft of diameter 10 mm, when the applied torque is 30 N.m.

Solution:

Given,
           Torque, T = 30 N.m
           Diameter, d = 10 mm = 0.01 m
           Maxm Shearing Stress, Ï„max = ?

We Know the maximum torsional shearing stress formula that,

                      Ï„max = 16T/ Ï€d3
                              = (16 x 30)/ [Ï€ x (0.01)3]
                              = 152.78 x 106 N/m2
                              = 152.78 MPa

So, the maximum torsional shearing stress = 152.78 MPa.
